Need a HOT, M/M, wolf shifter, erotic romance? Shadowing Mace arrives Wednesday! Want a sneak peek?
With his brother away at a conference, alpha wolf shifter Shadow finds himself paired with IT analyst Mace, the one man he can't stand. Stuck with the partnership due to his pack leader's order, Shadow can only count down the days until his life returns to normal. He's a loner. Period. No matter how much his inner beast protests.
Mace isn't thrilled either, but can't resist the temptation to push all the surly alpha's buttons, even as he fantasizes about what could be. Flirting with danger, he's determined to make the best of the situation, if he can only get Shadow to give in to both their desires.
Unfortunately, a twisted revenge-seeker has other plans. A series of events rocks the entire pack, leaving innocent people hurt and fear running rampant. Both men are thrust into the chaos, working tirelessly to track down the culprit before someone winds up dead. The pressure of trying to stay a jump ahead, with absolutely no clues, pushes them to the brink. Add in a burning hunger for each other, and their world begins to crumble around them. With no other choice, they have to trust and depend on one another in order to have a chance at solving the mystery and saving lives.
Excerpt:
The corners of his mouth hitched up. Mace realized Shadow probably normally ran the show, scripted plans, and barked orders. Perhaps Ian worked well under those conditions, but Mace preferred less micromanaging and more responsibility. After all, he possessed a brain and used it on a regular basis. “Last year, hunters focused on the western corner. I’ve sent Elliott out to mark all the fences generously with purple ribbon signifying hunting isn’t allowed. He’ll put some signs up, too.”
“Not that it ever stops them.” Shadow grumbled under his breath. “Okay. We’ll have the men pair up during patrols until hunting season is over.”
“We’ll have to remind them to stay in human form. I wouldn’t put it past a hunter to try to shoot a wolf and mount him on his wall.” Mace spat the words out in disgust. His kind hunted often, understood the delicate balance between resources and deer numbers, and worked to maintain healthy herds within their borders. The law of nature. However, he could never understand why humans felt they had the right to take whatever they wanted, no matter rules, laws, or simple ethics.
“I’ll send out a text to everyone.” Shadow pulled out his phone and began punching buttons. “Because the first human that takes a pot shot at one of my men, in either form, won’t be returning home with a trophy in hand.”
“Ditto.” Mace nodded his head in agreement.
“We still have to train the new patrol officers and finalize the annual security plans and budget.” Shadow blew out a breath.
“We?” Mace cocked an eyebrow.
“Yes, we.” Shadow narrowed his eyes. “You’re here to pick up the slack, remember?”
“I thought I was here to keep you from going apeshit crazy.” Mace managed to keep a straight face. “Although, I think I’m fighting a losing battle.”
Shadow growled and lifted his lip to expose sharp fangs. “Don’t make me kick your ass in front of the rookies.”
Mace snorted and stood. “As if.” He sauntered out the front door, hearing Shadow in his wake. Turning around, he paused to watch his work partner shut the door. “When’s the last time you got laid?”
The alpha snapped his head around so fast Mace could have sworn he heard the bones crack. “None of your fucking business.” Shadow bit off each word, his tone full of leashed anger.
Mace nodded. “Yeah, that explains it.” Not bothering to wait for an answer, he strode along.
